Sunset Beach has a new mayor

Greg Weiss, one of our SBTA members, was sworn in as Mayor on October 1, 2018. Greg is a faculty member retired from Roanoke College, Roanoke, VA. He and his wife have lived on the island for several years.

The Brunswick Beacon carried several informative articles about Greg, his candidacy, and the serious bumps in the road between his presentation at a Council meeting and his swearing-in ceremony.
The Beacon published an article about Greg's presentation at Council and responses from Council members.
The initial vote to confirm Greg as Mayor was 3-2 against, with Mayor Pro Tem Mark Benton casting the tie-breaking vote. The Brunswick Beacon ran an opinion piece about this Council meeting.
Eventually, the politics of the entire painful saga sorted themselves out and the Council unanimously approved Greg as Mayor.
Greg's swearing in was delayed by weather until October 1, 2018.
